This project, led by Jeffrey Swartz, required a visual identity and a website to present the project and give voice to the various contributors who take part in it. To define the identity, a search was made for royalty-free archival images related to arts education — photographs of a past academic world. The idea was, on one hand, to reference the nostalgic saying ‘things were better before’, and on the other, to highlight that ‘some things never change’. Precarity in academia in general, and in the arts specifically, is a reality today, and not without irony we chose to draw on the imagery provided by archival photographs
